Swiss pianist Adrian Oetiker has established an international career as a soloist, chamber musician, and highly sought-after professor. Praised by critics for his flawless technique, nuanced touch, and expressive power, Oetiker’s playing is described as both energetically dynamic and atmospherically brilliant. He began piano studies with his father and Hans-Rudolf Boller before training under Homero Francesch at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste and Bella Davidovich at the Juilliard School in New York, with additional guidance from Lazar Berman. Early on, he received numerous national prizes and scholarships, later achieving international recognition with distinctions in competitions such as Cologne, Clara Haskil, and Dublin. In 1994, he was awarded his hometown’s cultural prize for founding the St. Gallen Chamber Music Festival, and in 1995, he won the prestigious ARD International Piano Competition in Munich.
Oetiker has performed with leading orchestras including the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden, and Irish National Symphony Orchestra. Following a successful European tour with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, he was invited to Australia multiple times, performing with most major orchestras there. He has played all of Bartók’s piano concertos with the Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse and appeared in renowned venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, Gewandhaus Leipzig, and Teatro La Fenice. He has also contributed to ballet productions at major opera houses. Since 1996, he has been professor of piano at the Hochschule für Musik Basel and, since 2011, at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. He is also the artistic director of the International Summer Academy of Ettal.
