Kick off the summer in style with The Philharmonic Brass

Monday 29 June 2026 | 19.30 | NODA BCVS, Sion

On 29 June at NODA BCVS, The Philharmonic Brass will provide a dazzling prologue to the Sion Festival with the finest in brass music. This outstanding ensemble will be led by the flamboyant Tugan Sokhiev, who has recently been appointed Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (OSR).

Founded by leading brass and percussion players from the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras, this ensemble of around twenty musicians gave a highly acclaimed debut concert at the Musikverein in Vienna in 2023. Shortly afterwards, he recorded his debut album, “Overture”, conducted by none other than Tugan Sokhiev, who “loves brass”. The programme for their concert in Sion features a selection of famous overtures from this repertoire, combining them with masterpieces of Italian music from their second album, “Italiana”, as well as some dances.

The programme opens with Slavic music, ranging from Shostakovich’s Festive Overture to Dvořák’s Carnival Overture, including the Slavonic Dances by the same composer and Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances (Prince Igor). Italian composers are then given pride of place, starting with Rossini’s famous Overture to William Tell, followed by other opera melodies – the Intermezzo from Puccini’s Manon Lescaut and the lively Ballabile from Verdi’s Aida. You will finally be transported to Rome by Respighi’s vibrant and colourful symphonic poems Roman Festivals and Pines of Rome.

Do not miss this exceptional concert, a taster of the 62nd edition of the Sion Festival, which will feature 27 further events from 21 August to 6 September.

We cannot wait to share these moments of music and emotion with you! Until then, we wish you a vibrant and colourful start to the summer.
