About
André Cazalet started his musical training very early and obtained 1st prize at the CNSM Paris. Soloist for the Pierre Boulez InterContemporain Ensemble, he has also been the principal horn soloist for the Paris Orchestra since 1980. Simultaneously, his solo career has led him to perform under the direction of Christoph Eschenbach, Paavo Järvi, Semyon Bychkov, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Peter Eotvos, John Nelson, Michel Plasson, Antonio Papano, Walter Weller, etc.
Sought after chamber music partner, he performs with Daniel Baremboïm, the Quatour Talich, Pascal Rogé, Gérard Caussé, Maurice Bourgue, Karia and Marielle Labèque, Jean Pierre Rampal, Emmanuel Pahud, Schlomo Mintz, Christoph Eschenback, Pierre Laurent Aimard, Christian Tetziaff, Boris Berezovsky, Julian Rachlin.
His repertoire ranges from the 18th century through to our time and he undertakes research work with composers of the new generation. He is the dedicatee and creator of numerous pieces for his instrument. He has been professor at the CNSM Paris since 1985 and is invited to teach by well-known institutions : Tchaikovski Conservatory of Moscow and Rimsky Korsakov of St. Petersburg, the Vienna and Tokyo Universities, Hamburg Musikhochschule, Freiburg, Munich, etc.
His discography includes concertos by Haydn, Leopold Mozart and his recording of piano trios, violin, Brahms horn and Ligeti received the Grand Prix du Disque. Nominated for the Victoires de la Musique in 2011, André Cazalet is a “Chevalier de Arts et Lettres”.
