Candida Thompson is an internationally recognized violinist, known for her extraordinary musical communication and honest musicianship. Her curiosity and research led her to pioneering programmes and collaborations crossing boundaries of culture, time and genre. She studied violin with David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music in London and at the Banff Centre in Canada. Her musical development was influenced by collaborations with Isaac Stern and leading ensembles such as the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and Camerata Salzburg.
Since 2003, she has been the artistic director of the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, a renowned string ensemble, with which she performs worldwide and creates innovative concert series in the Netherlands. As a soloist and chamber musician, she works with prominent artists such as Janine Jansen, Bruno Giuranna, and Alexander Gavrylyuk, and is a regular guest at international festivals such as Kuhmo, Ernen, and the Utrecht Chamber Music Festival.
Her recordings have been released by prestigious labels such as Deutsche Grammophon and Channel Classics. Thompson is deeply committed to mentoring young musicians and is regularly involved in training institutions like Villa Musica or the Guildhall School. She initiates interdisciplinary projects with composers like Jörg Widmann and collaborates with artists from photography, dance, and design. She plays a Guarneri del Gesù violin.
