About

The violinist Mi-Kyung Lee studied in Gstaad, Switzerland with Alberto Lysy, in Cologne with Igor Ozim, at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Sándor Végh and privately with Ana Chumachenko. Her major awards included the silver medal at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels (1985) and in 1988 the second prize – a first prize was not awarded, as so often – at the ARD competition.

As a soloist she has performed among others, with the Symphony orchestra of the Bavarian Radio Symphony, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the Wuerttemberg Chamber Orchestra, the Camerata Academica Salzburg, the Radio Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra in Helsinki, the English Chamber Orchestra, the BBC Scotland, the KBS and the Korean Chamber Orchestra. As a soloist and chamber musician she has played at the Berlin Festival, the Menuhin Festival, the Helsinki Festival, the Salzburg Festival and the Casals Festival.

She has made many radio broadcasts and CD recordings. Mi-kyung has been teaching as a guest professor in Udk, Berlin and had a Professorship in Sibelius Academy Helsinki. She gave masterclasses in many European countries, including England, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, France, Finland, Sweden as well as in Korea. She was appointed professor of violin at the Hochschule Fuer Musik und Theater in Munich in 2005.
