The Signum Quartett studied with the Alban Berg, Melos and Artemis Quartets and was also coached by György Kurtág, Walter Levin, Günther Pichler, Alfred Brendel, Leon Fleisher and Jörg Widmann. Since then, the quartet has made its mark on the international scene and has established itself as one of the most distinguished ensembles of its generation.
The Signum Quartett regularly partners with Jörg Widmann, Nils Mönkemeyer, Leonard Elschenbroich, Adrian Brendel, Christian Ihle Hadland, Eckart Runge (Artemis Quartet), Nicolas Altstaedt, Mark Sampson and Carolin Widmann. The quartet’s concerts have been broadcast by numerous European television and radio channels, including WDR, NDR, SWR, Deutschlandfunk, DRS, ORF and Arte.
They have recorded several works by Thuille, Schubert, Orff, Rihm, Wolff, Ives, Puccini, Webern, Schnittke, Bartók, Ravel, Debussy, Schulhoff Dvořák and Brahms.
As communication via social networks became an integral part of our daily lives, the Signum Quartett created the “#quartweet” project asking asked the Twitter community to send it compositions up to 140 notes long that the quartet would then play. Composers such as Bruno Mantovani, Sebastian Currier, Konstanzia Gourzi, Steven Mackey, Caroline Shaw and others have already contributed to this novel initiative.
