Thomas Grossenbacher was principal solo cellist of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich for over 26 years and maintains an active concert career. As a chamber musician and soloist, he has performed throughout Europe, the USA, and Japan. His recordings, particularly the CD of Richard Strauss’s “Don Quixote” (Arte Nova) with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich under the direction of David Zinman, have received significant international acclaim.
As a professor at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), Thomas Grossenbacher is also highly dedicated. Many of his former students are prizewinners at international competitions, hold prominent positions in renowned chamber music ensembles and symphony orchestras, or pursue careers as soloists.
Thomas Grossenbacher’s teachers were Tatjana Valleise, Mischa Frey, Claude Starck, and David Geringas.
