About

The St. Florianer Sängerknaben, founded in 1071 at the Augustinian Canons’ Monastery of St. Florian near Linz, are among the oldest boys’ choirs in the world and look back on an almost thousand-year-old tradition. The most famous former choirboy is Anton Bruckner, whose name is closely linked to the choir. Originally, the boys mainly provided church music at the monastery, but since the 20th century, they have also performed internationally and regularly appear at renowned music festivals and in major opera houses.

In addition to the boys’ choir, a men’s choir has existed since 1989, mainly composed of former choirboys, which broadens the repertoire. Soloists from the choir often take on boy roles in opera productions.

Their discography includes traditional Austrian music, folk and Christmas songs, as well as early music with renowned ensembles.

Artistic direction was held by Franz Farnberger from 1983 to 2018, and since then Markus Stumpner has been the choir director. Today, the St. Florianer Sängerknaben perform on every continent.
