The 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic

Germany

Cellos

About

In 1972, the radio recording of Hymnus, a piece by Julius Klengel for 12 cellos, gave the musicians gathered for the occasion – all members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra – the idea of gathering more regularly. Thus, “the twelve cellists of Berlin” was born. Quickly requested by the most beautiful concert halls, the group is now unanimously acclaimed, and offers eclectic programs, between classical, jazz, tango and avant-garde creations. A fine discography, several times awarded the ECHO prize, testifies to this dynamism.
