After first moments of grace, the Sion Festival 2023 continues with a bang this Wednesday 23 August. Between the Bach-inspired breakdance acrobatics of the Flying Steps, the mad, teasing virtuosity of the Bons Becs, the combined peaks of Misha Maisky and Bach, the sparkling panache of Sergei Nakariakov and the Brass Band 13 Étoiles, and the shimmering, twirling universe of Vincenzo Capezzuto, all you have to do is let yourself be carried away by the unstoppable, irresistible force of music and the arts.
And don’t forget to come and applaud the talented young violinists in the 1st round of the Tibor Varga Competition 2023 on 25 and 26 August! A decisive test will take place for them in front of an international jury chaired by Augustin Dumay.
We invite you to join us in this world where all differences disappear, where everyone speaks the same language.
The team of the Fondation Sion Violon Musique
Bach meets breakdance with Flying Bach, a high-flying, hair-raising show. Created just over ten years ago by the Flying Steps breakdance troupe, it is back in Switzerland for a jubilee tour, with a single concert in French-speaking Switzerland: the one organised by the Sion Festival at the Théâtre du Crochetan in Monthey. Do not miss it!
The four clarinettists and the percussionist from Les Bons Becs will bring together instrumental virtuosity, humour and theatre with panache and subtlety. They will be playing, moving, dancing and jumping as musical styles collide and a merry “wind of madness” (Vent de folie is the programme title) blows through you.
Hosted for the first time by the Sion Festival, Mischa Maisky will present you a monument of cello literature: the Bach suites (he will play three of the six in total), the complete works of which he has already recorded twice. An unmissable rendezvous with a living legend and his fiery cello.
European champions in 2023, the Brass Band 13 Etoiles will be in dialogue with the “Paganini of trumpets”, Sergei Nakariakov. An encounter between an international star and Valais brass virtuosos, between classical music and the popular brass band genre, for an evening that promises to be scintillating.
Countertenor Vincenzo Capezzuto and his ensemble Soqquadro Italiano will take you on an audio-visual voyage of discovery of Migrant music. A colorful and luminous plea for openness to the world, between Baroque virtuosity and the rich dialect of the Mediterranean basin. Come and set sail with him!
