The 1st round of the Tibor Varga Competition has just concluded a few hours ago, after two days of outstanding performances by our 23 contestants from around the world, all giving their very best before the seven members of our jury.
This first round highlighted the solo violin repertoire, and our international jury, along with families and the audience present in the hall, had the opportunity to discover and enjoy the very diverse and inspiring musical personalities of our violinists.

The 23 candidates were invited to perform three major works from the repertoire: two consecutive movements from a Partita or Sonata by J. S. Bach, one of the six Sonatas for solo violin Op. 27 by Eugène Ysaÿe, and the Capriccio for solo violin by Shin Kim, a work specially commissioned for the 2025 edition.

The 2nd round of the Competition, scheduled for August 25–26, 2025, will focus on the violin sonata with piano. The 12 selected candidates must perform three works:

• a sonata by Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, Schubert, or Schumann,

• a sonata by Debussy, Janáček, Prokofiev, Enesco, Poulenc, Bartók, Ravel, Schönberg, or Szymanowski,

• and a virtuoso piece of their choice, for solo violin or violin with piano.
