About

Born in Tokyo, Yuzuko Horigome began studying the piano at the age of 4, and the violin at the age of 5. After debuting under Ryosaku Kubuta, she completed her training at the Toho Gakuen Conservatory with Toshiya Eto. In 1980, her career began with flying colours after winning first prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. Her career has since comprised up of concerts around the world, with such renowned conductors as Claudio Abbado, Kurt Masur, Charles Dutoit, Seiji Ozawa, Ivan Fischer and Simon Rattle, and with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic and the Academy St Martin in the Fields. Yuzuko Horigome is also attached to the chamber repertoire and regularly collaborates with illustrious fellow musicians including Martha Argerich, Nobuko Imai, Mischa Maisky and Gidon Kremer. With her friends Philippe Graffin, Abdel Rahman El-Bacha, Roger Chase and Jeroen Reuling, she founded the ensemble Consonances, which is very active in Holland, Belgium and Japan.

 

Besides her activities as a soloist and chamber musician, Yuzuko Horigome is also very attached to teaching. She teaches violin in the Dutch section of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Her recognized pedagogical qualities also led her to give numerous master classes in California, France, Japan and Denmark. She also sits on juries at the Queen Elisabeth (Belgium) and Sendai (Japan) competitions when her diary gives her the opportunity.
