A baroque and chamber music grand finale for the Sion Festival
After two weeks of artistic experiences as varied as they were inspiring, a rich and exciting third and final week awaits us, offering a baroque and chamber music grand finale.
This Thursday 3 September, José-Daniel Castellon’s solo flute will converse with the strings of Les Solistes Français and their first violinist, Paul Rouger, for a journey into the world of Baroque music, blending virtuosity and expressiveness.
On Saturday 5 September, Boris Brovtsyn, Amihai Grosz, Blythe Teh Engstroem, Daniel Blendulf, Jonathan Swensen and Denis Kozhukhin will take you on a journey through three musical eras, from Beethoven’s nascent Romanticism to Kodály’s bold modernism, tinged with Hungarian folklore, via Brahms’s passionate lyricism.
You can hear again Janine Jansen’s talented musician friends – she herself having had to withdraw for health reasons – on Sunday 6 September for a Church Trail that will take you to three iconic churches in Sion. It will be divided into two routes, A and B, which will allow you to discover two of Shostakovich’s late sonatas of your choice: the one for violin (Trail A) or the one for viola (Trail B).
The rest of the programme will be the same for both Trails A and B, featuring a selection from the Baroque repertoire for recorder – alongside Lucie Horsch and David Jansen – and one of the absolute highlights of chamber music: Franz Schubert’s splendid Quintet for two cellos – for which Svetlana Makarova will join the ensemble. We would then like to invite you to a drink in front of the Sacré-Cœur Church to bring this 62nd edition to a close on a festive and convivial note.
