Svetlana Makarova is a Professor at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne and at the MDW University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
A laureate of numerous international competitions, she is internationally recognized for her expressive artistry, refined musicality, and inspiring pedagogy.
After graduating with distinction from the Moscow State Conservatory and completing her PhD there, she was invited by Lorin Maazel to join the Palau de les Arts Orchestra in Spain, where she held a leading violin position, marking the beginning of her distinguished international career.
As both a soloist and chamber musician, Svetlana Makarova performs extensively with renowned orchestras and ensembles across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
Her artistry is complemented by a deep dedication to teaching — she regularly gives masterclasses around the world, sharing her expertise and passion with young violinists.
Her students include prizewinners of major international competitions such as the Tibor Varga, Carl Nielsen, Vaclav Huml, Stuttgart, Sibelius, Leonid Kogan, Ysaÿe, and Il Piccolo Violino Magico competitions, among many others. They also include concertmasters and members of leading orchestras worldwide, continuing her tradition of excellence and musicianship on the global stage.
Svetlana Makarova is a regular jury member at prestigious international violin competitions, and her performances have been broadcast on major radio networks.
