Description

The comments we make about music have always seemed to me to be singularly insipid, the language being unable to speak clearly about this art that[…] engulfs all commentary.

Jean-Michel Maulpoix, “Musique et bruits de chaises” in La Musique inconnue

This spite of Jean-Michel Maulpoix, all those who had to write about music, or talk about it, experienced it; it is that the mysterious does not allow herself to be easily approached and is resistant to the fixations of language. Many music-loving intellectuals (Barthes, Jankelevich…) have been afflicted by this resistance, and have clearly described the impossibility of the language to fully grasp music. But love capsizes the most erudite feathers, and these learned characters nevertheless continued to blacken pages, struggling passionately to summon the only subject they thought they could not find. It is that, not content to be in love, a music lover reminds us of the etymology, is madly so. In other words, it is impossible to resist. Music fills everything up and talking about it becomes necessary, how impossible even that would be.

Music lovers, we too, so we make this bet to talk about music. This year, five of our concerts will be preceded by introductory conversations, to which we invite you. These moments of encounter will be curious, warm, gourmet – in love! Elements of contextualization, musical analysis sketches, guided listening, reading, debates… everything will be possible. A single watchword: pleasure. And if the music escapes the words, we will at least try to get a little closer to it, and taste the sovereign and slightly melancholic joy of walking towards it, the “beautiful unknown, which passes”.
