Guilhaume Santana won first prize at the Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Competition in Berlin and at the Wattrelos Young Performers Competition.
At the invitation of Claudio Abbado, Guilhaume Santana became the principal bassoon at the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and at the Mozart Orchestra of Bologna. Since 2007 he has also been the principal bassoon at the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken-Kaiserslautern.
Guilhaume Santana is regularly invited by many prestigious orchestras as a soloist. As a chamber musician, he has performed on stages such as the Kammermusiksaal of the Berlin Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall in New York and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw with other musicians including Emmanuel Ax, Till Fellner, Alexander Lonquich, Giuliano Carmignola, Albrecht Mayer, the Berliner Barocksolisten and the clarinettist Sabine Meyer and her wind ensemble.
A professor at the Hochschule für Musik Saar, he has also taught at the HEAR in Strasbourg and at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg. He regularly gives Masterclasses in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
