About

Monika Baer is Head of Strings and lecturer in baroque violin at the Zurich University of the Arts. She leads the Zurich Baroque Orchestra together with Renate Steinmann, gives lectures on historically informed performance practice and is a sought-after expert.

As a chamber musician, she devotes herself to her passion for early and contemporary music. Her latest recording of consort music was released in 2023 on the renowned ECM label.

She received her training at the HEM Geneva with R. Zimansky, in Basel with W. Levin and in Dresden with J. Holloway. She worked for many years as 1st concertmaster of the Basel Chamber Orchestra as a member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and the Philharmonia Zurich, where she was influenced by Ch. Hogwood, C. Abbado and N. Harnoncourt, among others.
