Pierre Amoyal is today one of the world’s most brilliant violinists. At age 12, he won First Prize at the Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP) and went on to study in Los Angeles with Jascha Heifetz, with whom he performed alongside Gregor Piatigorsky.
He has collaborated with the world’s leading orchestras and conductors (Pierre Boulez, Seiji Ozawa, Charles Dutoit, Simon Rattle, …) and has made numerous recordings for Decca (Fauré, Chausson, Franck, …) and Harmonia Mundi (Brahms, Grieg) alongside renowned artists such as Pascal Rogé, Frédérich Chiu, and the Ysaÿe Quartet.
In 2022, he founded the Camerata de Lausanne—now known as CameratAmoyal—composed of 14 young and talented international musicians. A professor at the CNSMDP, then at the HEMU–Vaud and the Mozarteum in Salzburg, he is passionately dedicated to teaching.
He was named a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters (1985) and a Knight of the National Order of Merit (1995), and received the Prix du Rayonnement from the Fondation Vaudoise for artistic creation (2002) as well as the City of Lausanne Prize (2006).
Pierre Amoyal is a deeply endearing example of a virtuoso whose exceptional talent has in no way hindered either his love of his work or the development of his most essential human qualities.
