Competition Program

Tibor Junior 2026, 1 to 4 July

Each candidate will interpret a selection of pieces from the list below. Repeats are left to the candidate’s choice, unless otherwise indicated.

1st Round (selection by video)

  • One Caprice for Solo Violin by N. Paganini or H. Wieniawski
  • One full Sonata for Violin and piano by W. A. Mozart, L. van Beethoven or F. Schubert
  • Two Movements free choice from J.-S. Bach Six Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin

 

2nd Round (Live in San Vito al Tagliamento with Piano accompaniment):

  • One sonata for Violin and Piano to be chosen from the following works:
    • R. Schumann – Sonata N° 1 in A minor, Op. 105
    • C. Franck – Sonata in A Major
    • C. Debussy – Sonata N° 3 in G minor, L 148
    • J. Brahms – Sonata N° 1 in G Major, Op. 78
    • E. Grieg – Sonata N° 3 in C minor, Op. 45
    • S. Prokofiev – Sonata N° 2 in D Major, Op. 94bis
    • K. Szymanovsky – Sonata in D minor, Op. 9
  • One composition for Violin and Piano, to be chosen from the following virtuoso works:
    • P.-I. Tchaikovsky – Valse Scherzo
    • M. Ravel – Tzigane
    • C. Saint Saëns – Introduction and Rondò Capriccioso, Op. 28
    • N. Paganini – I Palpiti
    • H. Wieniawski – Polonaise N°2 in A major, Op. 21
    • F. Waxman – Carmen Fantasie
    • E. Ysaye – Caprice d’après l’Etude en forme de valse de Saint Saens, Op. 52
  • A. Pärt – Passacaglia for two Violins and Piano (will be performed with another candidate – the parts will be sent and announced on 15 May 2026)

 

FINAL

  • One full concerto for violin and orchestra to be chosen from the followings:
    • W. A. Mozart – Concerto no. 1 in B flat Major, K 207
    • W. A. Mozart – Concerto no. 4 in D Major, K 218
    • W. A. Mozart – Concerto no. 5 in A Major, K 219
  • J.-S. Bach – « Erbarme dich, mein Gott » from the St Matthew Passion, BWV 244 (played with a member of the jury, the candidate must prepare the violin part)
  • Solo Violin « Encore » – A solo violin piece chosen by the candidate (max duration 8 minutes)
