Hartmut Rohde, distinguished violist and conductor, enchants audiences with his distinctive sound colours and expressive musical language. He is a founding member of the Mozart Piano Quartet, winner of the prestigious OPUS Klassik prize in 2018.

His international career is marked by numerous competition awards. Rohde performs in the most prestigious venues and regularly gives concerts in Australia, the United States, South America, Europe and Asia. His chamber music collaborations include artists such as D. Geringas and J. Jansen. As a soloist, he plays with orchestras such as the Weimar State Orchestra and the Munich Symphony Orchestra, under eminent conductors such as K. Nagano and P. Järvi. As a conductor, he has led renowned ensembles such as the Leopoldinum Chamber Orchestra in Wrocław and the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra in Budapest. His recordings for EMI Classics, Decca and Sony/BMG have received critical acclaim.

Trained by Christian Pohl and Hatto Beyerle, he has been teaching at the Berlin University of the Arts since 1993, and is also an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Music in London. He plays a viola by Giuseppe Fiorini (1899) and an Ivo Luliano (2016).
