Tibor Varga International Violin Competition 2023: Registration is open!

If you are under 26 years old and wish to experience a competition with a human face, which will enrich your instrumental practice and highlight your musical qualities, the Tibor Varga International Violin Competition is for you. The next edition will take place from 25 August to 2 September 2023 in Sion, Switzerland.

The selected candidates (pre-selection on video) will play alone in the first round, then accompanied by a pianist in the second round. The final will take place in two parts – a particularity of this competition. The first part will be devoted to the chamber music repertoire, with Alexandre Chaushian (cello) and Ashley Wass (piano) as partners. In the second part of the final, the candidates will perform violin concertos accompanied by a renowned Chamber Orchestra.

A piece for solo violin by Silvia Colasanti commissioned for the Competition will be performed as a world premiere by all candidates in the first round.

Great rewards await the candidates:

  • 1st Prize: CHF 20’000
  • 2nd Prize: CHF 10’000
  • 3rd Prize: CHF 5’000
  • Prize for the Best Interpretation of S. Colasanti’s composition: CHF 3’000
