About

Born in 1979 in Rennes, Charles Barbier was fascinated by the voice from an early age and joined the Maîtrise de Bretagne as a child. He studied choral conducting at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris, and then perfected his conducting skills at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki after having obtained the Continuo and Choral Conducting Prizes. Charles Barbier is a regular guest conductor with various ensembles, in programs ranging from Gregorian chant to contemporary opera. Since 2008, he has been principal guest conductor of the Orchestre Les Lumières and, with Caroline Marçot, has been artistic director of the Échelle since 2010. He is also director of the Ensemble Vocal de Saint-Maurice, in Valais.
