In this first concert of the Professors of the Tibor Varga Academy, José-Daniel Castellon (flute), Vinciane Béranger (viola), and Letizia Belmondo (harp) invite us on a journey exploring a wide range of sounds. From Mozart to Debussy, passing through Saint-Saëns and Bax, we discover a delightful blend of timbres and sound textures!
Composed within a few months of each other, Bax’s Elegiac Trio and Debussy’s Sonata for viola, flute, and harp reveal a new musical universe through their unique instrumentation. With a genuine desire to explore timbre, Debussy creates multiple writing effects, giving his Sonata a mysterious and improvised atmosphere. Through elegant writing with Irish influences, Bax weaves together lyricism and drama in his Trio, which immerses us in a mood of soothing melancholy. This gentle melancholy is also echoed in Liszt’s Romance oubliée, an intimate piece of great expressiveness. We also discover, with Saint-Saëns’ Fantasy, a magical sound world that combines the harp and the flute: a contrasting and highly virtuosic work! Last but not least, we joyfully return to Mozart’s elegance with the KV423 Duo, performed in a version for flute and viola.
Don’t miss this concert highlighting the unique expressive qualities of these three instruments, whose sonorities blend to perfection!
