Orchestre de la Suisse Romande

Switzerland

About

Founded in 1918 by Ernest Ansermet, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (OSR) is currently composed of 112 permanent musicians and performs more than 80 concerts each year, including around twenty abroad. Nearly 700 musicians have contributed to its reputation, built over the years thanks to its historic recordings and its interpretation of 20th-century French and Russian repertoires.

With a global reputation, the OSR has always played an active role in the history of music by discovering and supporting contemporary composers. Works by Stravinsky, Milhaud, Honegger, Marescotti, Britten, Lutosławski, Holliger, Blank, Eötvös, Dusapin, Šenk, Jarrell, and Rudaz have been premiered by the OSR. Supporting symphonic creation—particularly Swiss—is still one of its missions today. Thanks to a partnership with Decca, which has produced legendary recordings, the OSR has cemented its presence on the international music scene. Its regular tours take it to the most prestigious venues in Europe and Asia, as well as major cities across the Americas.
