Description
This 4th edition of the Tibor Junior International Violin Competition is all about emotion and passion! This competition offers talented young violinists from all over the world the rare opportunity to play with an orchestra throughout all the rounds, right up to the final. It’s a unique opportunity for these young violinists to demonstrate their artistic sensitivity and express their musical personality by interacting with the South Czech Philharmonic. For this 1st round, twelve violinists will present a wide repertoire, exploring baroque music, virtuoso study and contemporary works.
Antonio Vivaldi was a master of the concerto, composing over five hundred of them, including the Four Seasons, one of his most famous works. With virtuosity and passion, the violin soloist interacts with the orchestra in a veritable tableau vivant evoking the atmospheres, landscapes and emotions associated with each season. A virtuosity that is transcended in the caprices of Niccolò Paganini, whose extreme technical difficulty has frightened more than one violinist! The superb piano accompaniment composed by Robert Schumann magnifies the musical beauty of these caprices, which will be played in this 1st round in an arrangement for orchestra by Andrei Pushkarev. Finally, our young candidates will perform a duet of Arvo Pärt’s Passacaglia, in its version for two violins and orchestra. Composed in 2007 as a tribute to the violinist Gidon Kremer, this work is based on the idea of a baroque passacaglia, a dance in which a series of chords is repeated ostinato. Together, the soloists and the orchestra will renew and transform the initial material, which consists of a repetition of quasi-mechanical sounds.
