Tibor Junior Competition | Final

Description

The final of the Tibor Junior 2024 Competition promises to be an exceptional musical evening, with a programme showcasing all the virtuosity and expressiveness of our young violinists!

Our finalists will have the chance to perform “Erbarme dich, mein Gott”, one of the most poignant arias from the St Matthew Passion, with mezzo-soprano Marie-Claude Chappuis, a member of the jury. Voice and violin converse, intermingle and complement each other with great emotional intensity, evoking repentance and supplication. This duo of two generations, accompanied by the strings of the South Czech Philharmonic, promises a deeply moving interpretation of this masterpiece by Johann Sebastian Bach.

The candidates will be able to show off their incredible virtuosity by playing one of these pieces for violin and orchestra: Tchaikovsky’s Valse-Scherzo, Paganini’s La Campanella, Waxman’s Carmen Fantasy, Saint-Saëns’ Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, or Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen. These spectacular, technically taxing works demand power, brilliance, energy and passion. Our finalists will need a great deal of musical commitment to overcome and transcend the impressive difficulty of these competition pieces.

At the end of the evening, we will have the immense pleasure of welcoming back Seohyun Kim, winner of the Tibor Varga 2023 Competition. She will be performing a sonata by Giuseppe Tartini that is said to have been dictated to him by the devil himself. Incredibly technically challenging, this sonata transforms the violin into a demonic polyphonic instrument.

We look forward to seeing you on this final evening of the Tibor Junior 2024 Competition!
