Description

The concerto with orchestra is a must for all professional violinists. This recurring exercise in the musical life of a soloist requires multiple abilities: great memorization skills, ease of communication – with the conductor, but also with the audience – technical virtuosity and expressive power. Yes, these are the many qualities necessary for those who take on the theatrical task of the concerto, and those which the candidates of this second evening of finals will have to demonstrate.

Musically, the works will be diverse, ranging from the most famous pages for the instrument – concertos by Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn or Tchaikovsky – to the most recent and less usual concerto in C sharp by Shostakovich. Each candidate will thus choose to present, according to his or her personal sensitivity and particular talents, one of these monuments of the violin repertoire, and to defend it in front of the orchestra and its conductor – the excellent Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra led by Sergej Krylov – and the audience. Although they are eminently different in terms of their temporal and geographical origins, the concertos selected all have in common a variety of nuances and colors, allowing the violinist to show the full extent of his art.

Piotr I.Tchaikovsky: Concerto in D major, Op. 35

BIS: Piece for solo violin, preferably composed after 1970, at the free choice of the finalist (max. 5′)
