Description

The Sion Festival celebrates its 60th anniversary! During this evening devoted entirely to the violin, the winners of the prestigious Tibor Varga and Tibor Junior Competitions will perform a programme spanning the centuries. In honour of this anniversary, Swiss composer Yannick Barman has devised a work that will be performed here for the very first time.

As expressive as it is virtuosic, the violin is undoubtedly one of the instruments most prized by composers from the Baroque period to the present day. Its sound is akin to the human voice, transporting us into a rich and intense emotional world.

This evening, let yourself be taken on a journey by some of the great names of the violin. From Mozart to Barman, they will share with us their love for this instrument and reveal its many facets. We will discover a violin of dazzling virtuosity in Saint-Saëns’s Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, as well as in Kreisler’s Praeludium and Allegro. Ravel’s Tzigane is no less virtuosic, transporting us into the world of Hungarian rhapsody and improvisation. A violin that will also passionately take us to the lively streets of Cuba with Saint-Saëns’s Havanaise. Finally, it will express all its elegance in Mozart’s Divertimento K. 136 and embody contrasting emotions in Shostakovic’s Five Pieces, from melancholy to elation.

We look forward to celebrating 60 years of the Sion Festival with you!
