The Tibor Junior Competition is unique among its kind and the Sion Festival is very proud to host the final of this singular competition. Valuing youth and giving a spotlight to the great artists of tomorrow is an important mission that an ambitious festival must honour. Pavel Vernikov, who initiated this innovative project, wanted to offer musicians aged 14 to 17 the possibility of confronting the testing exercise of the competition while welcoming them within a benevolent educational approach.
The young artists thus have the chance to play all their rounds with the orchestra, but also to play among themselves, in obligatory duets, or with certain members of the jury. The competition is intended to be demanding but friendly – and in this year when the 100th anniversary of Tibor Varga’s birth is being celebrated, this concern for pedagogy with a human face is more central than ever. We can look forward to the participation of Maria Ioudenitch, winner of the Tibor Varga Competition 2021. Come in great numbers!
