Description

Nicola Campogrande is one of the most popular contemporary Italian composers. The Sion Festival is honoured to host the world premiere of Danze immaginarie by the Turin-based composer. Conceived for a double cast – the first playing on modern instruments, the second on baroque instruments – the work will unfold the thread of an expressive reverie around musical memory. The two groups will respond to each other as the pages unfold, creating a real sense of suspense, somewhere between a past rich in echoes and a future full of promise.

Alongside this creation, several masterpieces from the repertoire, both well-known and lesser-known, will continue the dreaming – in lyrical mode. Rachmaninov’s Elegiac Trio will unfold its powerfully melancholic movements, along with the delicacy of Fauré’s Second Piano Quartet. But for those who fear nostalgia, Jean Françaix’s L’Heure du berger (Shepherd’s Hour) will offer a time for smiles and lightness – and everyone will be served.
